MAGA Voter Gets Schooled on Trump Tax Law by TikToker Dean Withers in Viral Exchange

In a viral confrontation that’s making waves across social media, TikToker Dean Withers delivered a powerful reality check to a MAGA voter who tried to pin rising taxes on the Democratic Party—only to be reminded that she was actually criticizing a law implemented by Donald Trump himself.

The clip, which has racked up hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), captures Withers calmly dismantling a Trump supporter’s argument during an impromptu street interview. Known for his sharp wit and knowledge of political policy, Withers has made a name for himself by engaging with right-wing voters in real time and exposing inconsistencies in their talking points.

This particular exchange began with the woman lamenting what she described as the burdens of “Democratic rule” over the past four years. “We’ve had more taxes, we pay more for everything,” she complained, clearly blaming the Biden administration for her financial frustrations.

Withers seized the moment to probe further. “Wait, you think taxes have been really high in the last four years, right?” he asked. “I just want to clarify: You didn’t like Biden and Harris’ tax code?”

Laughing confidently, the woman replied, “I did not,” seemingly unaware of what was coming next.

That’s when Withers delivered the gut punch.

“In 2017, Donald Trump passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act,” he explained. “That was his tax code, and it’s set to expire this year. So under the entire Biden-Harris administration, we’ve actually been operating under Trump’s tax code.”

Stunned but unwavering, the woman doubled down: “I would never vote for a Democratic regime, ever.”

Withers didn’t miss a beat. “So it had nothing to do with what they’re doing and all to do with the fact that they’re Democrats,” he said. “Party over country every single day. You’re a member of a cult.”

The moment was not only brutal—it was revealing.

The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), which President Trump signed into law, was touted by Republicans as a major win for the economy. House Speaker Mike Johnson has since called it “the first comprehensive tax reform in 31 years” that would restore economic opportunity for working families.

But multiple nonpartisan studies tell a different story. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found that the TCJA disproportionately benefited the wealthy, especially those earning over $100,000 per year, while placing added strain on low-income Americans. The CBO also projected that the law would increase the national deficit by more than $1.4 trillion over a decade.

A separate report from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) released in 2019 cast further doubt on the law’s efficacy. It concluded that the tax cuts had minimal impact on economic growth, failed to raise wages, and didn’t lead to widespread corporate reinvestment—despite Republican promises.

Still, many Trump loyalists remain unaware or misinformed about the origins and effects of the law. And as Dean Withers’ video makes clear, some are quick to blame Democrats for the fallout of policies crafted by their own party.

Social media users applauded Withers’ firm but factual approach. “He handed her the truth and she just didn’t know what to do with it,” one commenter wrote. Others praised the TikToker for exposing what they saw as the dangerous tribalism at the heart of the MAGA movement.

Withers has built a following online by calling out political ignorance in real time. In another recent viral clip, he challenged a MAGA voter who expressed confusion about inflation. The voter asked him, “Is the only reason that prices go up due to inflation?”—prompting Withers to clarify that inflation is the term for rising prices. When the voter accused him of “not getting it,” Withers looked visibly stunned.

These exchanges may seem absurd to some, but for Withers, they underscore a serious problem in American political discourse: the disconnect between belief and fact.

As the 2024 Trump tax cuts approach their expiration date, debates about taxation and economic policy are bound to intensify. But if Withers’ videos are any indication, the biggest battle may be over truth itself.
