A major protest is brewing in Washington ahead of President Donald Trump’s controversial national prayer gathering — and organizers say they have a towering surprise waiting just blocks away from the event.
On Sunday, Trump is expected to appear alongside allies and top administration officials at “Rededicate 250,” a massive prayer rally being held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
The event, organized by the Trump-aligned group Freedom250, has drawn intense criticism from opponents who accuse it of blurring the line between religion and politics.
Some watchdog groups have gone even further.
Public Citizen reportedly condemned the gathering as looking “less like a traditional religious event and more like a program for the Church of Trump.”
Now, progressive Christian activists are preparing a dramatic visual protest they hope nobody in Washington will be able to ignore.
According to reports from The Washington Post, the group Faithful America — which describes itself as a network of progressive Christians opposing religious nationalism — has teamed up with the Freedom From Religion Foundation to unveil a massive inflatable installation near the event.
And it’s designed to send a very specific message.
The groups say they plan to erect a 15-foot-tall golden calf balloon featuring a face resembling Trump.
The symbolism is impossible to miss.
In the Bible, the golden calf became one of the most famous symbols of false worship and idolatry — and organizers appear to be directly accusing Trump supporters of elevating the president into a political and religious icon.
The protest also appears to mock a recent gold-plated Trump statue reportedly installed at one of Trump’s golf clubs, a lavish display that already sparked controversy online.
Thousands of supporters are expected to attend the Rededicate 250 event, which is being promoted as part of celebrations leading toward America’s 250th anniversary.
But critics argue the gathering represents something much larger than a prayer rally.
Opponents say it reflects the growing fusion of Trump-style politics with Christian nationalism — a movement critics claim increasingly portrays political loyalty to Trump as intertwined with religious identity.
The protest balloon is only the latest anti-Trump installation to appear in Washington in recent months.
The city has recently seen satirical arcade games mocking Trump’s Iran war strategy, along with controversial art displays referencing convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Now, the giant “golden calf” may become the newest viral symbol in America’s escalating political and cultural war.
And with cameras, protesters, worshippers, and political activists all converging on Washington at the same time, Sunday’s event is already shaping up to become far more than just a prayer gathering.
