The investigation into the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has taken an unsettling turn. Authorities revealed Friday that Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of fatally shooting the Turning Point USA founder at Utah Valley University, left behind bullet casings engraved with internet memes, gaming codes, and mocking taunts.
During an FBI briefing, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed that Robinson was turned in by his father after family members grew alarmed at his behavior. But it was the markings on the ammunition that stunned both investigators and the public.
Among the messages reportedly etched onto bullets were:
- “Notices bulges OWO what’s this?” — a reference to furry roleplay memes.
- “Hey fascist! Catch!” followed by an arrow sequence resembling a Helldivers 2 bombing combo.
- “Oh bella ciao bella ciao bella ciao ciao ciao” — the Italian resistance song associated with anti-fascist partisans.
- “If you read this, you are gay lmao.”
The strange mix baffled investigators at first. Initial speculation by far-right influencers suggested links to “antifascist” or “transgender ideology.” But experts and gamers quickly recognized the arrows as a Helldivers 2 stratagem input for the Eagle 500kg Bomb. The song Bella Ciao, while historically antifascist, also appears in video game mods.
A Crime Scene Shaped by the Internet
The unusual inscriptions reflect what officials described as a collision of political extremism and internet culture. Cox admitted the “hey fascist” message “speaks for itself,” but the broader symbolism was inconsistent. “The messages can best be described as bizarre and extremely online,” the FBI said in its report.
The revelations further complicate an already volatile case. Kirk’s killing on Wednesday sent shockwaves through the MAGA movement. At just 31, he was seen as one of the most influential conservative voices, a close ally of Donald Trump, and a recruiter of young right-wing activists across the U.S. His assassination not only left a movement reeling but also fueled conspiracy theories.
From Discord to Arrest
Investigators say Robinson’s capture was aided by digital evidence. Screenshots from his roommate’s Discord chat showed him admitting to hiding his rifle in bushes near campus. The weapon, a Mauser .30-06 wrapped in a towel, was later recovered.
As news of the bullets’ inscriptions spread, the online communities tied to them reacted with alarm. The Helldivers subreddit briefly lit up with posts connecting the arrow sequence to the game. Some threads were quickly deleted as members expressed outrage that a satire about authoritarianism was now linked to real-world violence. “It sickens me,” one player wrote, condemning Robinson’s appropriation of gaming culture.
Arrowhead Game Studios, the creator of Helldivers, has not commented on the alleged connection.

Meanwhile, MAGA-aligned politicians and influencers promised “retribution” if the shooter’s ideology is proven to be left-leaning. The case has already been weaponized by political factions, with leaked law enforcement documents fueling misinformation online.
For now, investigators stress that Robinson’s motivations appear less ideologically consistent than chaotically digital — a collage of memes, taunts, and cultural references weaponized into a deadly act.
