Russian Woman Brutally Attacked in Cincinnati Brawl Returns Home as Accused’s Family Cries Racism Over Outrage

A Russian woman left bloodied and unconscious in a horrifying downtown Cincinnati street brawl has returned home — as disturbing footage of the attack continues to circulate and family members of the alleged attackers claim the backlash is racially motivated.

The woman, identified only as Holly, suffered a black eye, swollen lips, and extensive bruising after being violently sucker-punched while attempting to intervene in the melee. Video from the scene shows Holly knocked out cold, blood streaming from her mouth, as others continued to brawl around her unresponsive body.

According to police, Holly had no role in instigating the incident. Dekyra Vernon, 24, was charged with felonious assault after allegedly approaching Holly unprovoked and delivering the punch that left her unconscious.

The viral footage appears to show Holly and another white male being targeted by a group of primarily Black individuals during the violent early morning fight. As outrage swelled online, US Senator Bernardo Moreno (R-Ohio) released graphic images of Holly’s battered face and decried the attack on Fox & Friends, saying, “When I saw the video, I thought she had been killed.”

Holly was left with a huge black eye and busted lip during a horrifying, now-viral Cincinnati brawl.

Police confirmed Holly was hospitalized and later released. She has since returned to Russia, according to the Cincinnati Police Department.

Three individuals — Vernon, Montianez Merriweather (34), and Jermaine Matthews (39) — have been charged with assault, felonious assault, and aggravated riot. Police say Merriweather and Matthews helped coordinate the ambush.

Outside the courthouse Thursday, members of Merriweather’s family claimed the public outrage would be far less if the roles were reversed.

Several people throwing punches during the chaotic scene.

“If it was an African American woman who got knocked out, we wouldn’t be going through all this,” one family member said. Merriweather’s cousin added that he isn’t racist and cited his biracial son as proof.

Sharonville City Councilwoman Victoria Parks also came under fire earlier this week after she appeared to minimize the severity of the assault, calling it “just a street fight.”

The incident has now ignited a tense debate over race, justice, and media coverage in America — one that, like Holly’s injuries, has left deep and lasting marks.
