The manhunt for a suspected killer ended not in the woods of Devil’s Den, but in the soft hum of a Springdale beauty salon — with a pair of scissors still mid-snip.
Andrew James McGann, 28, the man accused of brutally stabbing a married couple to death in front of their daughters in Arkansas’ Devil’s Den State Park, was arrested Wednesday evening while receiving a haircut at Lupita’s Beauty Salon. Stylists say he looked empty — “soulless” — as detectives moved in.
“I had an eerie feeling the moment he walked in,” hairstylist Adriana Ruiz Avalos told NewsNation’s Banfield. “He didn’t look right. His eyes were sunken. His hair was dry and matted. He asked me to leave it long on top — so it would cover his eyes.”
What Avalos didn’t know was that police had been tracking McGann since the July 26 murders of Clinton and Cristen Brink — a beloved couple ambushed while hiking with their daughters, ages 7 and 9. According to police, Clinton died protecting his family, while Cristen rushed the girls to safety before returning to her husband’s side. She was killed moments later.

Their bodies were discovered on a remote trail in the park.
The Brinks’ daughters gave investigators a clear description of the killer, triggering a statewide manhunt. McGann’s black Kia Stinger was spotted outside the salon, and plainclothes detectives soon moved in.
“He didn’t realize what was happening until it was too late,” Avalos recalled. “He tried to stay quiet, keep his head down. But then they said, ‘That’s your car outside, isn’t it?’”
Surveillance footage shows McGann being handcuffed while still wearing a barber’s cape. Police later removed it as they escorted him out.

McGann, now facing two counts of capital murder, allegedly confessed to the killings. He is being held without bail at Washington County Jail.
Prosecutors say he will plead not guilty — but the community, still reeling from the horror in Devil’s Den, may never forget the moment the killer sat quietly for a trim… with blood still metaphorically on his hands.
