Adult Woman With a Childlike Look Faces Inappropriate Advances From ‘Creeps’ Seeking Romance

Shauna Rae, a 25-year-old reality TV star, has become known for her appearance and life story, which is both inspiring and challenging. Standing at just 3’10” and weighing around 50 pounds, Rae’s appearance is that of a young child, although she is an adult woman.

Her unique condition, which stems from pituitary dwarfism caused by childhood cancer treatments, has led to a range of social and personal difficulties, many of which are shared in her TLC reality series, I Am Shauna Rae.

The series, which premiered in early 2022, explores Shauna’s life, focusing on her experiences with the lingering effects of her childhood illness, which halted her growth at a young age. Despite being an adult, Rae often faces situations where others mistake her for a child.

This misconception has had a significant impact on her dating life, as many men show interest in her for inappropriate reasons. On her journey to find love, Rae has had to confront the reality that many people, particularly men with questionable motives, often see her as a novelty rather than a person with adult needs and desires.

Rae’s struggles have gained attention online, with many expressing sympathy and support for her, recognizing her right to be loved and respected as an adult. One fan wrote, “It’s so sad because she deserves to be loved and experience relationships,” while another pointed out, “She’s just a person like anyone else, I’m sure she just wants to be looked at that way.”

Shauna’s appearance, despite her adulthood, continues to be a source of misunderstanding. She was born with brain cancer, which led to extensive chemotherapy as a child. This treatment damaged her pituitary gland, a crucial part of the brain that regulates growth hormones. As a result, she has been unable to grow physically like her peers. On her show, she explains how frustrating it can be when people assume she is an eight-year-old rather than a 25-year-old woman. In an episode, she says, “People don’t understand that I’m an adult.”

During an interview with the New York Post, Shauna shares how this misconception affects her daily life: “If you look at me, you see an eight-year-old. But I think if you take the time to look at the details in my face, in my hands, the maturity in my body – and I think if you take the time to actually talk to me – you really understand that I’m [an adult].”

Sadly, this understanding is often not given, as Rae is frequently treated as a child. For instance, she has shared on TikTok that when she goes to restaurants, she is given a kids’ menu, crayons, and a cup with a lid, as if she were a young child. She has also discussed how people’s assumptions about her height and stature often lead them to treat her as though she’s younger than she actually is.

“I think it’s just the environment I’m around and the way I carry myself that sometimes affects it, but I also think if they see you in a family environment, they see a short-statured person, they just immediately think ‘child,’” she says.

Rae’s struggles go beyond public perceptions. She is also facing challenges related to her health. While she doesn’t currently want children, the effects of her childhood cancer treatments have left her with a very low egg count. Rae had hoped to freeze her eggs to preserve the possibility of starting a family in the future. However, she faced significant financial barriers.

In a YouTube video, she revealed that the process of freezing eggs would cost around $15,000 to $20,000, with much of the expense falling on her as her insurance would not cover it. Rae candidly expressed her frustration, explaining, “I wanted to go through with getting my eggs frozen to save a chance if I want to have children. I want the same opportunities as anyone else.”

Despite these setbacks, Rae continues to explore her options and think about her future. She has shared her evolving thoughts on starting a family, saying, “I’ve been lately having a lot of thoughts about if I do want a family and if I do want a baby that looks like me, or if I want to go through adoption or whatever. You know, at the end of the day, I genuinely don’t care… a child, someone to raise, someone to grow with, in a sense, is all in the same for me.”

To help fund her fertility journey and other medical needs, such as dental implants, Rae launched a GoFundMe. On the campaign page, she wrote, “In order to have a chance at the same opportunity as others, I am asking those who are willing to, for help.” She further explained that time is of the essence, as her fertility window is closing, and she needs to raise funds quickly.

In addition to her fertility journey, Rae has revealed that she is currently in a relationship. Though she has kept her partner’s identity private, she expressed how much happiness and support they bring to her life. She shared a post on Instagram, stating, “All you really need to know is they make me happy and I don’t know if I’d be as far in my goals without them.” Despite the challenges of being in a public relationship, she urged her followers to respect her privacy and refrain from being hateful toward her or her partner.

Rae has been open about the difficulties she’s faced with dating, having encountered men who show interest in her for the wrong reasons. She explained, “I’ve just developed the ability to spot someone who may not have the best intentions because they give themselves away. Their questions are very targeted towards my physicality… They’re learning about me like I’m a specimen in a lab.”

Shauna Rae’s journey highlights the importance of looking beyond physical appearances and assumptions. Despite the challenges she faces, from public misconceptions to the complexities of fertility, Rae remains determined to live life on her own terms.

With a strong support system and a growing platform, she continues to be an inspiration to many, proving that every person, regardless of appearance or circumstance, deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and the chance to pursue their dreams.
