Palestinian Flag-Waving Protester Tackled at Yankee Stadium on 9/11 Anniversary — Then Fans Erupt in ‘USA!’ Chants

A politically charged stunt at Yankee Stadium turned chaotic Friday night when a man carrying a Palestinian flag jumped onto the field during the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

The incident unfolded during the seventh inning of the Yankees-Mets Subway Series game in the Bronx.

At exactly 9:11 p.m., according to police and video from the stadium, 38-year-old Kelly Marcucci allegedly leapt from the stands and sprinted across the outfield holding the flag above his head.

He did not get far.

Security personnel quickly closed in and tackled him in center field as the crowd reacted loudly.

Within moments, chants of “USA! USA!” echoed through Yankee Stadium.

The timing made the disruption especially explosive.

The game itself had been framed as a night of remembrance, marking 25 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Earlier, two people who lost their fathers in the attacks threw out the ceremonial first pitches.

Brielle Saracini and Sean McGuire, now married, first met as children at a camp for families affected by 9/11.

Saracini’s father, Victor Saracini, was the pilot of United Airlines Flight 175, which was hijacked and flown into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

Yankees legend Derek Jeter was also present.

After Victor Saracini was killed, a 10-year-old Brielle wrote to Jeter.

He invited her to Yankee Stadium and tried to give her what he later described as one small moment of normalcy amid an unimaginable tragedy.

That history gave Friday night’s disruption a particularly emotional backdrop.

Police identified the man who ran onto the field as Marcucci, of Long Island.

He now faces misdemeanor charges including interference with a professional sporting event and trespassing, according to the NYPD.

Marcucci has not publicly commented on the charges.

In the hours before the game, he had posted extensively on social media.

According to the New York Post, his Facebook page included a lengthy political rant touching on capitalism, Zionism, Saudi Arabia, Donald Trump, Joe Rogan and September 11.

He also posted video from inside Yankee Stadium before the incident.

In the clip, he could be seen wearing a personalized “K. Marcucci” Yankees jersey.

The front of the shirt reportedly carried the words “No Kings,” a slogan frequently used by anti-Trump protesters.

Marcucci’s online profiles describe him as a journalist and a “spiritual tactician.”

One of his inactive social-media bios also described his politics as “revisionist-Marxist.”

Those descriptions are his own and do not necessarily explain his motive for running onto the field.

What is clear is that he chose a highly symbolic night and one of New York’s most visible sporting stages.

That ensured the incident would immediately become political.

Fans responded with patriotic chants as he was escorted away.

There is no indication that anyone else was injured during the disruption.

The Yankees and Mets did not immediately comment publicly on the incident.

The game resumed.

The Yankees ultimately defeated the Mets 6-4.

But by then, the brief interruption had already become one of the most talked-about moments of the night.

The symbolism was impossible to miss.

A Palestinian flag.

Yankee Stadium.

The anniversary of September 11.

And a crowd answering with chants of “USA.”

That combination guaranteed that video of the arrest would spread rapidly online.

Still, the facts of the case are narrower than the political reactions surrounding it.

Marcucci is accused of illegally entering the field during a professional baseball game.

He faces misdemeanor charges.

His political beliefs, social-media activity and decision to carry a Palestinian flag have amplified attention around the arrest, but the legal case itself centers on trespassing and interfering with the event.

The moment also stood in sharp contrast to the rest of the evening.

For much of the night, Yankee Stadium was focused on memory.

On the victims.

On families who had lost parents.

On a city that had endured one of the darkest days in American history.

Jeter’s appearance with Saracini offered one of the most emotional reminders of that history.

“When we invited her to the stadium, you really don’t know what to say,” Jeter recalled of meeting her after her father’s death.

He said he simply tried to make her day special.

Twenty-five years later, she returned to the field as part of the anniversary ceremony.

Then, hours later, another figure crossed that same field for a very different reason.

The stunt lasted only seconds.

But on a night built around memory, patriotism and grief, it was enough to ignite the entire stadium.
