Matthew Perry’s Mother Breaks Down in Heartbreaking Letter: “We Trusted a Man Without a Conscience”

The heartbreaking aftermath of Matthew Perry’s tragic death has taken an emotional new turn after the actor’s mother released a devastating victim impact statement accusing Perry’s former assistant of betraying the family’s trust and helping fuel the addiction battle that ultimately killed her son.

And some of her words are almost unbearable to read.

According to court documents obtained ahead of sentencing proceedings, Suzanne Morrison described the family’s overwhelming grief while directly condemning Perry’s former personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death.

Perry died on October 28, 2023, at age 54 after being found unresponsive in his hot tub at his Los Angeles home.

The medical examiner later ruled his death resulted from the acute effects of ketamine.

Federal prosecutors later alleged that Iwamasa repeatedly injected Perry with ketamine despite having no medical training whatsoever — including administering injections on the very day the beloved actor died.

Now, as sentencing approaches, Perry’s mother is publicly revealing the emotional devastation left behind.

“Our family believed he understood Matthew’s battle with addiction,” Morrison wrote of Iwamasa.

She explained that the assistant’s most important responsibility was supposed to be protecting Perry and helping him remain sober.

Instead, she said, he became part of the machinery destroying him.

“But instead of protecting Matthew,” she wrote, “he aided and abetted illegal drug taking.”

The statement grows increasingly painful as Morrison describes how Iwamasa allegedly secured drug sources and repeatedly injected Perry despite obvious danger.

“He did it again and again,” she wrote.

Federal investigators previously revealed that on the day of his death, Perry allegedly instructed Iwamasa to “shoot me up with a big one” before entering the hot tub.

When the assistant later returned home after running errands, Perry was found face down in the water.

The tragedy shocked millions around the world who had grown up watching Perry portray the sarcastic but lovable Chandler Bing on Friends.

But Morrison’s statement revealed that the suffering after his death only deepened.

In one of the most haunting passages, she described the horrifying scene outside Perry’s home after his body was discovered.

“And then one night he was just a body,” she wrote, “lying all but naked on the cold, damp grass of his backyard.”

She described helicopters circling overhead while media crews desperately sought images of her dead son.

“I stood out on the street in the cold and begged for a blanket to cover him,” she recalled.

“Impossible, of course.”

The emotional statement also accused Iwamasa of continuing to manipulate the family even after Perry’s death.

According to Morrison, he remained unusually close to her during the grieving process, sending songs, helping her navigate the cemetery, and even calling her whenever he saw rainbows — one of Perry’s favorite symbols.

She said he insisted on speaking at Perry’s funeral and acted “as if he was somehow the good guy who tried to save Matthew.”

Then came the line that shattered many readers online.

“We trusted a man without a conscience,” Morrison wrote.

“And my son paid the price.”

Despite the anger and betrayal described in the letter, Morrison also expressed gratitude toward investigators who pursued the truth surrounding Perry’s death and the network of individuals accused of illegally supplying ketamine.

Several people have since faced criminal charges connected to the case, including doctors, intermediaries, and alleged distributors.

Still, Morrison admitted that no investigation or prison sentence can truly bring peace.

“Closure,” she wrote, “doesn’t exist.”

“Nothing takes this pain away,” she added.

For fans around the world, Perry’s death already felt deeply tragic because of how openly he had spoken about addiction, loneliness, and recovery throughout his life.

But his mother’s words transformed the story into something even more heartbreaking:

Not simply the loss of a famous actor.

But the unimaginable grief of a mother who believes her son placed trust in the wrong person — and never came home again.
