A tense live television moment erupted Thursday night after Kaitlan Collins confronted Rep. Jim Jordan with his own past comments about gas prices — and the Republican lawmaker appeared visibly uncomfortable as the exchange spiraled.
The fiery confrontation happened during CNN’s The Source, where Collins pressed Jordan over skyrocketing fuel prices under President Donald Trump’s administration amid the ongoing Iran conflict.
Collins reminded viewers that Jordan had fiercely attacked former President Joe Biden when gas prices rose slightly above $3 per gallon during the pandemic years.
Now, with prices reportedly soaring above $4.50 nationally, Collins wanted answers.
“You were critical when gas was $3.07,” Collins told Jordan. “If you thought that was bad, what is $4.53?”
Jordan initially struggled to respond directly.
Instead, he pivoted toward national security concerns and Iran’s nuclear ambitions, arguing that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons was Trump’s priority.
“You can’t have that regime getting a nuclear weapon,” Jordan said, while defending the administration’s broader actions.
But Collins didn’t let the issue go.
She then aired old footage of Jordan blasting Washington “elites” for being disconnected from Americans struggling with fuel costs — before reminding him that Trump had once promised gas prices under $2 per gallon.
That’s when the interview suddenly went sideways.
“That’s life,” Jordan responded.
Collins immediately pushed back, noting that many struggling American families likely would not appreciate hearing soaring costs dismissed that way.
“Saying ‘that’s life’ might not make them feel better,” she said.
Jordan then attempted to distance himself from the comment.
“Those are your words, not mine!” he fired back.
But Collins instantly corrected him.
“No, you said that just now!” she responded.
The awkward exchange quickly exploded online, with critics accusing Jordan of hypocrisy and praising Collins for forcing him to confront his previous rhetoric about inflation and fuel prices.
The clash comes as Republicans increasingly face pressure over rising gas costs, inflation concerns, and growing voter anxiety linked to the ongoing Iran war and global oil disruptions.
