They Gave Birth to a Baby Who Wasn’t Theirs… Now the Truth Is Out—and It Changes Everything

What began as a long-awaited dream of parenthood quickly turned into a legal and emotional nightmare for Tiffany Score and Steven Mills—a Florida couple now at the center of a deeply unsettling fertility scandal.

Months after going public with their story, the couple has confirmed a major—and complicated—development: the biological parents of their infant daughter have been identified.

“The results of testing delivered to us today confirm that our baby’s genetic parents have been identified,” the couple said in a statement released through their attorney. But while the revelation brings clarity, it also opens a new and uncertain chapter in a case that has raised serious questions about trust, medical oversight, and the fragile boundaries of modern family-building.

At the heart of the case is a devastating error involving in vitro fertilization, or IVF—a process that is meant to help couples conceive but, in rare instances, can lead to catastrophic mistakes.

Score and Mills had turned to the Fertility Center of Orlando with hopes of starting a family. According to their lawsuit, the couple successfully created and stored three viable embryos. Everything appeared to be proceeding normally.

Then came the moment that would change everything.

In April 2025, Score underwent an embryo transfer procedure, believing one of their embryos had been implanted. The pregnancy progressed without incident, and the couple eagerly anticipated the birth of their child.

But when their daughter, Shea, was born on December 11, 2025, something immediately felt wrong.

The baby, they say, did not resemble either of them.

What began as confusion soon turned into a devastating realization: the child they had carried, delivered, and loved from the very beginning was not genetically related to them.

Despite the shock, the couple made a clear and unwavering decision.

“Only one thing is absolutely certain,” they said. “We will love and will be this child’s parents forever.”

Still, the emotional weight of the situation—and the legal implications—could not be ignored.

Fearing that their daughter could one day be taken from them and returned to her biological parents, Score and Mills filed a lawsuit against the clinic, seeking answers about how such an error could occur. Their legal team, led by attorney Jack Scarola, has described the incident as a profound breach of trust, one that has caused lasting emotional trauma.

Now, with the biological parents identified, the case enters a new phase.

The couple has made it clear they will keep the identities of the other family confidential, emphasizing their intention to respect their privacy. According to their attorney, there have been no demands from the biological parents regarding custody—a fact that offers some reassurance, but does not eliminate the uncertainty ahead.

“This ends one chapter in our heartbreaking journey,” the couple said. “But it raises new issues that will have to be resolved.”

Among those unresolved questions is the fate of their own embryos.

The couple says they still do not know what happened to the embryos they created—whether they were mistakenly used, misplaced, or remain unaccounted for. Their attorney confirmed that the legal proceedings will continue in an effort to uncover those answers and determine appropriate compensation for the harm they have endured.

Meanwhile, the clinic at the center of the controversy has remained largely silent.

The Fertility Center of Orlando did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Earlier this month, however, it announced it would be closing its operations, with another facility expected to open in the same location—a move that has only intensified public scrutiny.

For Score and Mills, the focus remains on their daughter.

They have described Shea as “completely innocent” in a situation that has placed her at the center of a complex legal and ethical storm. And while the discovery of her biological parents could have introduced fear and division, the couple has instead emphasized stability, love, and commitment.

Their story is a stark reminder of the risks that can accompany even the most advanced medical technologies—and the human consequences when those systems fail.

It also raises broader questions about regulation, accountability, and the safeguards in place to prevent such errors from happening again.

For now, one truth stands above all others.

In a case defined by uncertainty, confusion, and heartbreak, one bond remains unshaken: the love between parents and the child they have raised from the very beginning.
