Trump Booed at NFL Game After Demanding Stadium Be Named After Him
President Donald Trump thought he’d score a standing ovation. Instead, he got booed into oblivion.
On Sunday, football fans at Maryland’s Northwest Stadium erupted into a chorus of jeers when Trump’s face flashed across the giant screens during the Washington Commanders’ matchup against the Detroit Lions — just moments after he demanded that the new stadium be named in his honor.
Trump, 79, appeared in a private suite alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, waving stiffly as the cameras zoomed in. But when the Jumbotron lit up with his image, the reaction was deafening — not cheers, but boos that drowned out the announcer.
Videos captured by WUSA 9’s Alexis Wainwright quickly went viral, showing thousands of fans shouting and gesturing as Trump tried to maintain his smile.
“It was instant,” one spectator told reporters. “The second they showed him, everyone booed — loud. You could feel it through the stands.”

The moment might have stung even more because it came just days after reports that Trump had personally lobbied for the Commanders’ new home to be named after him.
A source told ESPN that back-channel talks had taken place between the White House and the Commanders’ ownership group — including managing partner Josh Harris — to christen the billion-dollar venue “Trump Stadium.”
Trump was attending the game as a guest of Josh Harris, marking the first time a sitting president has attended a regular-season NFL game since 1978.
During a pregame ceremony, he even read out the military Oath of Enlistment, swearing in new recruits. But instead of patriotic applause, the crowd responded with even louder jeers.
“The boos actually got stronger during the oath,” one reporter observed. “It was surreal — like two Americas colliding in one stadium.”
Later, Trump joined Fox Sports in the commentary booth, offering a rambling meditation on life and perseverance.
“I just love it,” he told the host. “It’s a microcosm of life. You’ve got to get through the problems to hit the triumphs. You can never quit.”
Meanwhile, online, the internet was already replaying the boo heard ‘round the Beltway.

Far-right influencers flooded social media with outrage, framing the crowd’s reaction as “an attack on patriotism.”
“Wow. Doesn’t get much more disrespectful than this,” conservative podcaster Benny Johnson fumed.
Chaya Raichik, better known as Libs of TikTok, accused Democrats of “hating America.”
“Absolutely disgusting. Democrats have no respect for our brave troops who put their lives on the line. Democrats hate America,” she wrote on X.
Another MAGA personality, Johnny MAGA, went further:
“This is the most disgraceful thing I’ve ever seen. Pure gutter trash Commanders fans.”
But outside the conservative echo chamber, the reaction was mostly laughter.
“Trump demanded they name the stadium after him,” one user quipped. “They gave him something better — a standing boo.”

Not His First Time at the Boo Bowl
Sunday wasn’t Trump’s first brush with a hostile crowd.
He was booed at the U.S. Open men’s final in September, heckled at a Yankees game, and jeered again at the FIFA World Cup Final in July. Even some of his supporters have quietly acknowledged that the boos reflect a public fatigue with his endless need for adoration.
“He can’t resist the spotlight,” one former campaign aide told The Daily Beast. “But the spotlight’s turned into a floodlight, and it’s not flattering anymore.”

Adding to the awkwardness, Trump has taken personal credit for the Commanders’ new facility, which he claims his administration “made possible” through federal development approvals.
“It’s a beautiful thing — they should name it after me,” he said in a recent radio interview.
Instead, as the Commanders lost to the Lions 22–44, Trump left the stadium to a wall of boos echoing behind him — the kind of reception no amount of stage management can spin.
The man who wanted a stadium in his name ended up being reminded that not every crowd is his rally.
