Brilyn Hollyhand, the 19-year-old conservative wunderkind heralded by some as the “new Charlie Kirk,” is facing questions about his credibility after being caught in a sting requesting thousands of dollars to appear at student events. Despite publicly insisting he doesn’t charge young conservatives for campus speeches, leaked emails and invoices tell a more complicated story — one that has set off a firestorm inside the MAGA youth movement.
The “New Charlie Kirk”
Hollyhand has been building his profile since childhood. At just 11, he interviewed Charlie Kirk, the late founder of Turning Point USA, and quickly carved out a niche as a right-wing media personality. With more than 200,000 followers on X, he brands himself as “the internet’s youngest voice of reason.”
Since Kirk’s shocking assassination in September, Hollyhand has leaned even harder into the comparison, barnstorming college campuses on a self-branded speaking tour called “One Conversation at a Time.” Modeled after Kirk’s tent revival-style events, the tour was meant to cement Hollyhand’s role as Kirk’s heir in the MAGA youth scene.
But Hollyhand’s polished image hit turbulence after the Daily Mail posed as college organizers trying to book him for an event. The outlet reached out to Premiere Speakers Bureau, which represents Hollyhand, and asked for details. The response: “Brilyn’s fee is $7,500 plus coach class airfare and expenses for (2) two. Is this within budget?”
Denials and Spin
When confronted, Hollyhand denied ever charging student groups for his time. In a statement to The Daily Beast, he insisted: “For campus stops, I cover all costs myself and get there on my own, which still seems to upset the haters. 😂 For large conferences, I, like every other conference participant who’s invited to speak, get reimbursed for the basic costs of getting there which is absolutely standard.”
That explanation didn’t fully square with the emails obtained by Daily Mail. While his bureau appeared willing to “work with whatever budget is available” for campus events, the initial quoted fee was clear — and it contradicted his public claim that students never pay.
The backlash only deepened when another young conservative activist, William Branson Donahue, posted an invoice from February showing Hollyhand had been paid $2,191.91 by Penn State College Republicans for “travel, lodging and meals.” To Donahue and others, that invoice proved Hollyhand’s denials were misleading at best.
A source close to Hollyhand countered that the Penn State event qualified as a “large conference” under his definition, and provided an itemized bill showing the payment covered airfare and meals for himself and his father.
A Private Jet and MAGA Skepticism
The controversy comes just weeks after Hollyhand raised eyebrows by posting about his college tour from a private jet. Though he insisted the plane belonged to “a hometown friend” helping him out, critics pounced, portraying him as an entitled scion of privilege rather than a grassroots fighter.
Indeed, Hollyhand hails from a wealthy Alabama family with deep ties to real estate development. His MAGA celebrity, critics argue, has been boosted as much by money and connections as by ideology.
Nick Sortor, a journalist and former co-host of Charlie Kirk’s radio show, dismissed Hollyhand as a “grifter” in response to the jet video. Turning Point USA’s head of operations, Tyler Bowyer, also stepped in, clarifying that Hollyhand’s tour had no official affiliation with the organization and calling it “distasteful.”
The MAGA Mirror
The episode has left many in the conservative movement questioning whether Hollyhand represents the grassroots authenticity of Charlie Kirk — or merely a carefully manufactured replacement.
For Trump’s base, Hollyhand’s youth and energy once looked like an asset at a time when the MAGA brand is struggling to attract college-aged supporters. But the revelations of inflated speaking fees and luxury travel have cast a shadow over his claim to be fighting for the “forgotten student.”
Charlie Kirk’s rise was fueled by relentless hustle and a talent for making college conservatives feel like part of something bigger. Hollyhand, by contrast, now faces accusations that he is cashing in on a martyr’s legacy.
For a 19-year-old who has spent nearly half his life cultivating a place in the MAGAsphere, the sting has cut deep. Whether Hollyhand weathers the scandal or becomes another cautionary tale of ambition, privilege, and opportunism in Trump’s America remains to be seen.
