The world’s largest cruise ship was forced to make an abrupt U-turn just hours after leaving Miami on Monday, after a fight by the children’s pool escalated into a full-scale onboard emergency.
The Wonder of the Seas, a 1,200-foot Royal Caribbean vessel capable of carrying 7,000 passengers and 2,000 crew members, had been scheduled for a five-day voyage through the Bahamas. Instead, it cut its journey short after two passengers were injured during a melee that began as a verbal spat.
“A verbal dispute ensued between patrons, which became physical,” the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “The captain of the ship decided to return to port and contact authorities.”

Photos showed paramedics wheeling at least one passenger on a stretcher into an ambulance after the ship docked. Police confirmed that two passengers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Both later declined to press charges.
Royal Caribbean confirmed the incident in a statement but said it could not provide further details. “Our team provided medical care to adult guests who were involved in an altercation onboard, and the guests are being treated for their injuries,” the company said. “We notified local authorities and are working closely with them.”
The vessel had left Miami that afternoon and was due back on Friday, but instead returned to port the same evening. By late Monday, the Wonder of the Seas had departed Miami once again to resume its cruise itinerary.

The spectacle marked the latest in a series of cruise ship brawls making headlines. In August, another Miami-based cruise was rocked by a violent scuffle over buffet chicken tenders, leaving multiple passengers bruised.
As one of the crown jewels of Royal Caribbean’s fleet, the Wonder of the Seas has been promoted as the ultimate luxury experience—offering sprawling pools, a massive indoor solar-powered pool, and accommodations for thousands. But Monday’s melee underscored how quickly paradise at sea can turn into chaos.
