Melania Trump’s legal team has issued a stark ultimatum: retract comments linking her to Jeffrey Epstein or face a staggering $1 billion lawsuit. Biden’s response? A smirk and two words: “F*** that.”

A lawsuit threat with billion-dollar stakes

The controversy erupted after Biden appeared on the YouTube program Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan. In the newly released episode, the 55-year-old former first son dismissed Melania’s legal threats with open disdain. “That’s not going to happen,” he said, grinning arrogantly into the camera.

The First Lady’s team had announced Wednesday that they were formally demanding Biden retract “false and defamatory” remarks suggesting that Epstein, the disgraced financier who died in jail in 2019, had introduced Melania to Donald Trump in the late 1990s.

Biden made the claim last month on the same program, citing Michael Wolff — an author with a reputation for provocative, often disputed assertions — as well as older reporting in the New York Times. “According to his biographer, Jeffrey Epstein introduced Melania,” Biden said, adding that Trump and Epstein were “very close friends for a very long period of time” who spent “enormous amounts of time around young women.”

Melania strikes back

First Lady Melania Trump was reportedly “very upset” by the allegation, which she and her husband have forcefully denied. Both insist they met in 1998 at a New York Fashion Week event hosted by Italian businessman Paolo Zampolli.

“She was very upset about it,” President Trump said in an interview with Fox News Radio, adding that he encouraged his wife to pursue legal action. “Jeffrey Epstein had nothing to do with Melania and introducing, but they do that to demean. They make up stories.”

Melania’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, was blunt in an Aug. 6 demand letter obtained by Fox News. “Failure to comply will leave Mrs. Trump with no choice but to pursue any and all legal rights and remedies available to her to recover the overwhelming financial and reputational harm that you have caused her to suffer,” he wrote.

Brito also blasted Wolff as a “serial fabulist” and accused Biden of exploiting his famous surname. “Given your vast history of trading on the names of others – including your surname – for your personal benefit, it is obvious that you published these false and defamatory statements about Mrs. Trump to draw attention to yourself.”

Biden doubles down

Biden, however, seemed energized by the threat. In Thursday’s interview, he even taunted the Trumps with the prospect of depositions. “If they want to sit down for a deposition and clarify the nature of the relationship between Jeffrey Epstein… I’m more than happy to provide them the platform,” he said.

His brashness comes at a precarious time. Biden is already saddled with millions in debt, according to court filings, and faces dwindling income from his art sales, book projects, and mounting legal bills. A billion-dollar judgment could ruin him financially. Yet he appeared undeterred, casting himself as a target of intimidation. “They’re bullies, and they think that a billion dollars is going to scare me,” he said.

A pattern of threats

The First Lady’s legal team has made similar moves before. Last month, The Daily Beast quietly retracted a piece suggesting an Epstein connection after being threatened with litigation. Democratic strategist James Carville also scrubbed an episode of his podcast and issued an apology after speculation about the same rumor.

But unlike media outlets and political operatives, Hunter Biden has shown no willingness to back down. His combative style — fueled by years of public scandal over drug use, foreign business dealings, and family drama — has turned him into both a lightning rod and an unlikely provocateur.

A battle with political undertones

For President Trump, the lawsuit is more than just about his wife’s reputation. It comes as he faces continued scrutiny over his long-documented ties to Epstein. Photographs and witness accounts have placed the two men together repeatedly in the 1990s and early 2000s, including at Mar-a-Lago. Trump has long downplayed the relationship, but critics have accused him of trying to rewrite history.
