A chaotic and terrifying scene unfolded early Saturday morning on Santa Monica Boulevard, when a car sped into a crowd of nightclub-goers in Hollywood, injuring at least 30 people. According to Los Angeles police, three victims remain in critical condition.
Authorities now say they’ve located the man believed to be behind the wheel—a gunshot victim found near the scene. The man was rushed to the hospital, but officials have yet to release his identity or current condition.
The shocking incident began when a silver Nissan Versa suddenly barreled into a line of people waiting to enter a nightclub. The impact was devastating. Witnesses say the vehicle first struck a taco truck and a snack stand before plowing through the crowd, most of whom were women.
Moments later, chaos erupted as bystanders reportedly pulled the driver from the wrecked vehicle and began attacking him. At least one person in the mob then drew a firearm and shot the driver. That suspect is currently on the run, and police are urging anyone with information or footage to come forward.
“This was an act of extreme violence that shook the heart of the city,” said LAPD spokesperson Capt. Rachel Kim. “We are investigating all angles—from possible intoxication, to road rage, to premeditated intent.”
📍 A Violent Night in Hollywood
Fire Department Captain Adam Van Gerpen told reporters that first responders arrived to find a scene of “mass trauma.” “We had over two dozen patients needing immediate care, many with broken bones, head trauma, and internal injuries. It was one of the most intense incidents we’ve responded to this year.”
Video footage from bystanders shows a frenzied crowd screaming and scattering, while others rush to help the wounded. Some videos circulating online show the moment the crowd surrounds the vehicle and begins attacking the man believed to be the driver.

Police confirmed that the vehicle did not attempt to stop after initially hitting the first obstacle. It plowed through the food stands and directly into the crowd. At this time, officials have not confirmed whether the act was intentional or accidental.
Adding to the confusion, a witness told reporters that a verbal altercation had broken out just minutes before the crash. “There was some shouting outside the club. A fight started. Then—bam! The car just came out of nowhere and slammed into everyone,” the witness said.
👤 Driver Found, Motive Unknown
Hours after the incident, LAPD officers found a wounded man with a gunshot wound that matched descriptions of the suspect. Police believe he is the driver, but his name has not been released. He remains hospitalized.
The shooter who fired on him in the aftermath has not been identified. Police are reviewing video footage and interviewing dozens of witnesses, but they are also urging the public to submit any evidence they may have.
“Our top priorities are identifying the shooter, determining whether this was an intentional act by the driver, and supporting the victims and their families,” said LAPD Chief Luis Navarro in a brief statement.
No charges have yet been filed.
💬 Reactions and Safety Questions
Local officials and community leaders are expressing shock and demanding answers. The club’s owners issued a statement saying they are cooperating fully with investigators and offering condolences to those injured.
Mayor Karen Bass called the incident “a horrifying act of violence” and promised that the city would ensure accountability. “We will not let our nightlife become a place of fear and bloodshed,” she said.
Many online are also questioning how a vehicle was able to reach such a densely packed pedestrian area. Calls for increased security and traffic barriers outside major clubs have intensified.
As the investigation continues, the city remains on edge, grappling with the trauma of an incident that turned a night of music and dancing into a scene of horror.
