South Florida Swelters Under Triple-Digit Heat Index — Storms Loom Later This Week

“Feels like” temps hit 102° as Miami braces for a hot, humid, and stormy stretch ahead.

MIAMI — The heat is on across South Florida, and it’s not letting up anytime soon.

Tuesday kicked off with temperatures in the low 80s across Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, but by afternoon, highs are expected to soar to around 90°. Factor in the humidity, and the heat index could reach a scorching 102°, according to the NEXT Weather Team.

Officials are urging residents to hydrate early and often throughout the day. The oppressive heat, mixed with high humidity, creates dangerous conditions for heat-related illnesses, especially for outdoor workers, children, and the elderly.

While there’s only a 20% chance of afternoon storms—mainly isolated over the Everglades—the real weather shift arrives later this week.

Starting Thursday, a disturbance moving into the region will bring a 60% chance of rain, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected to persist into the weekend.

Beachgoers can find some relief in the water, though they’re warned to take precautions: the rip current risk is low, but the UV index remains extreme, making sunburn possible in minutes. Boaters are in the clear today, with no marine alerts in effect.

By Friday, the rain chances dip slightly to 50%, but the muggy conditions and potential lightning strikes will keep South Floridians watching the skies.

In short: Drink water, wear sunscreen, and don’t forget that umbrella. The heat is relentless—and the storms are coming.
