“Worrying” Footage Shows Anti-ICE Protesters Distributing Tactical Gear in Los Angeles as Unrest Escalates

As federal officials hunt brick-throwing suspect, new video reveals organized effort to equip rioters—contradicting claims of “peaceful” protests.

LOS ANGELES — Dramatic footage has surfaced showing an anti-ICE protester distributing riot shields and gas masks from a pickup truck near downtown federal buildings, fueling concerns that the escalating violence in Los Angeles is being strategically coordinated—even as California officials insist the demonstrations remain “peaceful.”

The video, captured by Fox11 on Monday afternoon, shows crowds rushing toward the truck to grab gear branded “Bionic Shield” just blocks from clashes between protesters and law enforcement. The scene unfolded as President Trump deployed an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to the city, where riots have entered their fifth day following a controversial ICE operation.

An unidentified person was seen handing out what appeared to be riot shields and gas masks to the crowd from the back of a pickup truck.

“You Don’t Mask Up Unless You Plan Trouble”

The footage has drawn alarm from law enforcement and commentators alike. “This is a worrying sight,” said Fox11 anchor Elex Michaelson. “You don’t put on a mask unless you have a plan of not wanting somebody to see your face. This is concerning.”

Federal authorities are already hunting at least one suspect—40-year-old Elpidio Reyna—who was caught on camera hurling bricks at federal officers during Saturday’s protests. U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli warned: “Reyna can run, but he can’t hide.” If convicted of assaulting a federal officer, Reyna faces up to eight years in prison.

The protests in Los Angeles have entered a fifth day.

Clashes Intensify as Political Divide Widens

The protests, initially sparked by an ICE raid that arrested 118 undocumented immigrants—including several with violent criminal histories—have devolved into chaos. Demonstrators have:

  • Set cars ablaze near federal buildings
  • Stormed highways, disrupting traffic
  • Launched rocks and cement chunks at law enforcement
  • Waved flags of Mexico and other nations while taunting officers

Despite the violence, Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have repeatedly described the demonstrations as “largely peaceful,” accusing Trump of overreach by federalizing the National Guard. Newsom has filed a lawsuit alleging the move violates states’ rights.

Trump, meanwhile, has defended his actions, declaring: “If we didn’t do the job, that place would be completely obliterated.”

What Comes Next?

With tensions showing no signs of cooling, the battle over narrative and authority continues. As tactical gear circulates among protesters and arrests mount, the Los Angeles unrest has become a flashpoint in the broader national debate over immigration, federal power, and protest tactics.
