This decision would tragically mark the last time Jay was seen alive by anyone other than those men.
On the morning of June 17, Jay attempted to make his way back to his accommodation in Los Cristianos—a resort town on the other side of the island—without any confirmed transportation. The journey would have taken several hours by car, but Jay apparently set out on foot, a nearly 45-kilometer trek through unforgiving terrain.
He called his friend Lucy Law during this time, telling her that he was lost, extremely thirsty, and had injured himself on a cactus.
