Once a familiar face on primetime television, Nicollette Sheridan captivated audiences in the 1980s and 2000s with her magnetic screen presence and bold portrayals of fierce, unforgettable women. From her rise to stardom on Knots Landing to her iconic role in Desperate Housewives, Sheridan’s career has been a mix of critical acclaim, public scrutiny, and personal turbulence. Today, the 61-year-old actress leads a quieter life, far removed from the drama that once defined both her on-screen characters and her off-screen headlines.
Born in England in 1963, Sheridan moved to Hollywood at age 10 with her mother, actress Sally Adams, and her mother’s then-partner, actor Telly Savalas—known for playing the villain Blofeld in the James Bond franchise. Though her early days were marked by a strong British accent, she quickly adapted to her new surroundings. “All the kids used to make fun of that, and I hated it,” she recalled in a 1988 interview with the Tampa Bay Times. “So I practiced every day talking with an American accent and pretty much mastered it.”
Sheridan’s big break came in 1986 when she joined the cast of Knots Landing, the popular Dallas spinoff, as Paige Matheson. Playing a smart, ambitious, and mischievous character, Sheridan became a standout in the ensemble cast, showcasing a character who was both cunning and relatable. Her performance earned her a 1990 Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Lead Actress, and she was named one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” that same year.

Despite her professional success, Sheridan’s personal life often made headlines for less flattering reasons. In 1991, she married actor Harry Hamlin, but the union lasted only 11 months. The reason for the split became a point of gossip years later, when Hamlin’s second wife, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna, publicly alleged that Sheridan had cheated on Hamlin with singer Michael Bolton.
Sheridan denied the claim, sparking a social media spat in which Hamlin defended Rinna and accused his ex-wife of fabricating the truth. Regardless of the controversy, Sheridan and Bolton did in fact date shortly after her divorce, entering into an on-and-off relationship that spanned over a decade. The pair got engaged in 2006 but parted ways for good in 2008.
Her next marriage, to actor Aaron Phypers, also ended in divorce just six months after tying the knot. In a strange twist of fate, Phypers would later go on to marry another Real Housewives star—Denise Richards—adding yet another layer of surreal interconnectedness to Sheridan’s Hollywood story.
Professionally, the mid-2000s brought a career renaissance for Sheridan when she joined Desperate Housewives as the fiery and scandalous Edie Britt. The role made her a household name once again, but her time on the show ended in controversy. Sheridan’s character was abruptly killed off, and the actress later alleged that she had been fired in retaliation for accusing show creator Marc Cherry of physical assault.
Sheridan filed a lawsuit against Cherry, also accusing him of a hostile work environment and mistreatment of other cast and crew members. However, the case was ultimately dismissed in 2017. The fallout from the lawsuit took a toll on Sheridan’s career, and she chose to step away from the limelight, opting instead for smaller roles and television movies.
In 2017, Sheridan made a brief return to TV as Alexis Carrington in a reboot of the classic soap Dynasty. Her performance was well-received, but she left the show in 2019 to care for her terminally ill mother. “Working on the Dynasty reboot and reprising the iconic role of Alexis has been thoroughly enjoyable,” she said at the time. “But the chance to spend precious time with my terminally ill mother is more important to me right now.”
Today, Sheridan lives a more private and serene life, far from the glare of Hollywood’s spotlight. She occasionally takes on roles in Hallmark Channel movies or independent projects but appears content focusing on personal passions and family.
Though her name no longer dominates headlines, Nicollette Sheridan’s legacy endures—both as a talented actress who brought complex characters to life and as a woman who faced Hollywood’s highs and lows with unflinching resolve.
